To: ph-assess@u.washington.edu Subject: Vista Update X-mailer: Connect2-SMTP 4.00 MHS to SMTP Gateway There are many changes coming in the near future for the Vista Partnership - here is a brief update. We will discuss more of these changes at the next regional assessment meetings. New Vista Coordinator: In anticipation of Stacy Scheel's departure as our current Vista coordinator, we have hired a new coordinator for the position. Her name is Julie Alessio and she will be working in the Center for Health Statistics under Sharon Estee beginning around June 15th. Stacy will be working with her to train her for 2-3 weeks as will Jim and David from SeaKing. We are very excited to have her on-board. She has experience with ACCESS and other databases, Excel, SPSS, and has experience doing trainings, research, and statistics. She is (as was Stacy) an Environmental Studies Major finishing her Master's at Evergreen here in Olympia. She does have some knowledge of mapping also. She will be attending the regional assessment meeting in July (9, 15, 16) Changes to Vista: Jim Allen is still busy at work developing the new version of Vista which will not use SPSS. As I stated in earlier e-mail updates, He is doing a major re-design on Vista which will not only get rid of SPSS dependency but also allow for Vista to be Web-based. It will also be able to allow LHJs to group their own ICD-9 codes and make their own variables. With these changes comes a great need for DOH to address these areas with new policies in regard to data release. Theresa Jennings at the Center for Health Statistics will be convening a group this month to work on these issues and develop policies which will facilitate better and more standard data sharing between DOH and LHJs (and other entities). The LHJ representative is Sherri McDonald for now but a broader group will be developed after the preliminary meeting. Website and training: As many of you know the next training opportunity for Vista will be offered at the Joint Conference. We will have sessions on Wednesday in the am and pm. If you are registered for the conference please try to make it to the Wednesday am training, this will leave slots for those not registered for the conference to attend and not have to pay the registration fee (since the conference technically ends at 12 noon). If you are planning to attend other trainings remember you must register for the conference to attend trainings. To augment this training, Stacy Scheel has been developing a training website with informaiton from the training manual (updated), about the data sets in Vista, and with exercises you can walk through with the program. We are expecting the site to be available before Stacy leaves. Please let me know if you have questions or comments about the Vista Partnership.
