She was a powerful cultural force during a long life (1882-1975). Her father, Gov. Jim Hogg, was one of the two or three best governors Texas has had (and, when you think of Ma and Pa Ferguson, "Nose-Picking" Price Daniel and--perhaps--the current incumbent, you're grateful for people like him), a real progressive-era hero. Oil didn't come along until much later (he died in 1906). Miss Ima and one of her brothers ran the Hogg Foundation, a great benefactor of the University of Texas.
