I have had the request to waive residency based on an abusive situation as well, but I did not grant an exception. I didn't feel that one could be made and stay within the law. 2. We don't get many military, but I would do as both Virjean and Joseph have been doing. ALSO, you may be interested in knowing that the CC Registrar and Admissions group is reviewing recommendations about residency changes in the law. I can't recall whether we actually formed a Task force to review recommendations and bring back to the group or what??? But knowing that it takes a long time to get any changes made to law, we figured we'd start some place. A point argued was that six months length of residence might be a better time-lapse for the community colleges (there was a distinction made about the more transient type of student who might move to Washington and decide to enroll in a community college versus a student who applies for admission at a four-year college or university). The Registrars questioned whether community colleges shouldn't be more open to a shorter time frame. Another item of discussion that I recall was employment-related transfers, although my memory isn't serving too right here. Didn't know if maybe there were some four-years out there looking for changes in the law, and going through it once (and together) makes more sense. If there is interest, let me know and I'll pass it on to the group's President to incorporate a more state-wide approach. ---------- >From: Joseph M.
