As a follow-up to issues related to Black History Month, I wanted to mention that the upcoming (Saturday, Feb 3, 11:30 pm, KCTS 9 -- double-check this!) installment of "In the Life," a gay news and features TV show, will be doing a segment on gay African-Americans and Bayard Ruston (African American, gay man who organized the 1963 Civil Rights March on Washington). We could perhaps show this at our next meeting in February. Also, later in the month, channel 9 (date and time?) is showing Marlon Riggs', "Black Is, Black Ain't." This was Riggs' last documentary (he died of complications from AIDS in 1994) and it includes much discussion of homophobia in the African American community. We probably don't have time to get something organized with the BSU this month, but we could plan something for later. Regarding "Straight Talks," I know of a number of folks from PLU (including their current student body president) and possibly UPS who would probably be more than willing to serve on a panel if we either couldn't get enough UWT people, or just wanted to make some connections to those schools.
