But then I started wondering about the connection of that to the expulsion of Jews under Claudius thing you mentioned. The power to exile or deport does not seem to be something which was associated specifically with the ius gladii. Only emperors and the urban praetor seem to have had the power to actually kick someone out of the city or impose a sentence of exile (although I'm stressing the *seem* on that one ...
