But he might first want to spell out what he means: who's the historical revisionist? What has been revised? VDH writes wonderful history. He takes the side of the hoplite and peasant and writes spirited arguments. He takes on all others, including "theorists," though he does not spend much time discussing theory. The negative talk about our linkages with other disciplines is interesting since his adviser, Michael Jameson was among the first and most important classicists to work with anthropologists. His dissertation is itself a "revisionist" work, isn't it, changing the way we've thought about warfare? So, where's the beef? What's the beef?
