The Beached Bird Survey is designed to use data collected by a range of trained volunteers to examine long-term trends in patterns of seabird mortality along Washington's outer beaches. In addition to functioning as a baseline, the program will also involve local community members in conservation biology of seabirds. This person will be responsible for: site selection, protocol development, and publication of a beached bird field guide, under the supervision of the program director at UW. In accomplishing these goals, this person will work closely with a volunteer coordinator based at OCNMS as well as coordinate with a range of local, state, federal, and tribal natural resource managers. Requirements for the position include Master's or PhD level in biology or conservation; experience with outreach, volunteer-training, or other public education activities; and a commitment to community action. Knowledge of seabirds, the ability to work well in difficult group situations, and a good graphic sense are desirable qualities. In addition, this person should have the flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends, as well as travel frequently to meetings and field sites. One year, fulltime position with full benefits. Salary range $22,000-26,000 depending on experience.
