In an effort to collaborate with nearby regional research associations and other fundraising colleagues, CARA would like to extend an invitation to an even wider audience this year. We hope you will join us and forward this message to others who might want to attend. A keynote address by Jon Thorsen, former president of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) and a longtime advocate of research in the fundraising process, will kick off the program. His current experience as Senior Director of Prospect Development at the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C., will offer us a glimpse of fundraising after September 11th. Another highlight this year is the addition of a "Basic Track" for new researchers. Because basic training sessions have been so popular at our regional seminars, we decided to include these sessions in the Summer Workshop. Additional program selections include sessions on estimating net worth, identification of planned giving prospects, effective implementation of screening results, and the use of data mining to predict donor populations in an organization's internal database. There will also be ample opportunity to network and socialize with other fund raising professionals, share ideas, and become involved in CARA's vision for the future. CARA's Summer Workshop will make good use of Pomona's beautiful campus with a garden lunch at historic Seaver House and an outdoor evening reception in a park like glen. The Smith Campus Center, where class sessions will be held, is a handsome state of the art building. Nearby Claremont Village offers many interesting shops and restaurants. For more details, visit CARA's web site at www.caresearchers.org Click on "Events" then "Straw Into Gold" and finally "Summer Workshop Brochure" for the schedule and a registration form. Any questions? Please email: cara@iswest.com or phone (805) 649-4746. We look forward to meeting you in Pomona!
