Jan ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Thu, 19 Feb 1998 13:03:02 -0800 (PST) From: Jan Heine To: president@whitehouse.gov Subject: US foreign policy Dear Mr. President, I would like to express my extreme disagreement with your foreign policy on Iraq. Iraq is not the only country in violation of UN resolutions: Israel is one example, but even the US has been condemned for the Helms-Burton law. Yet we have not taken punitive action against Israel or changed our laws to respect international law. It appears that the entire conflict is another fallback to the times when US foreign policy was dominated by securing cheap natural resources (oil in this case), and expand American influence around the world. I urge you not to kill any more innocent civilians in Iraq or elsewhere. I also urge you to work on lifting those sanctions that cause such harm to the Iraqi people. Finally, I urge you to curtail US weapons exports that lead to situations like this. It has been the western world that has supplied many of the so-called "Rogue Nations" with weapons of mass destruction or the means to produce them. Best wishes, Jan Heine Seattle, WA .
