They have trained dogs to detect grizzly scat in the field. DNA isolated from the scat is then used to identify individuals and assess population size using a mark recapture model. They are looking for 4 field assistants to assist dog handlers in this project. Excellent backwoods skills are essential, especially orienteering with compass and topographic maps. Additional skills required include the ability to: live remotely, work as a team as well as independently, handle stress, and maintain calm in wildlife encounters. Candidates must also be able to ride in helicopters, be available intermittently until mid-May, and then full-time through mid-July. Knowledge of North American flora is also desirable.
