After 30 years of working to increase student diversity on our campus by attempting to make higher education accessible to student parents, we FINALLY have something to celebrate! On March 21, 1997, the Services and Activities Fees (SAF) Committee allocated $50,000 to fund a feasibility study for ON-SITE CHILD CARE for student parents in acceptance of a proposal put forward jointly by the GPSS and the ASUW. Thanks are due to Sarah Armstrong (an undergraduate in Women Studies) and Vivyan Adair (who has just completed her PhD in English) who co-authored the proposal and who have worked on student child care issues on campus for the past several years. NOW, WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! We are forming two committees to facilitate this study. Please volunteer to work on: A) The RFP (Request For Proposal) Task Force (June 15-October 15,1997) B) The GPSS/ASUW Ad Hoc Committee for On-Site Child Care to Serve UW Student Parents (begins Autumn Qtr 1997) After so many years and so much hard work, please help us make this much-needed service a reality!
