We would appreciate it if you would assist us by making this information available to graduate students in your unit or others who you believe may be affected by this policy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- August 23, 1996 Deans, Directors and Chairs, The student Technology Fee that was authorized in the 1996 session of the Washington State Legislature and approved by the students, will be implemented in Autumn Quarter 1996. In consultation with President McCormick, Acting Provost Huntsman, the University Budget Committee, and other advisory bodies, a policy has been adopted by which most state-funded and non state-funded Graduate Service Appointees (TA/RA/SA), as well as many fellows and trainees, will be exempted from payment either through waiving the fee or charging it to a central University account. For students supported by self-sustaining and Research Support Allocation (RSA) budgets, the fee will be charged to the employing budget. Criteria for this exemption for Graduate Student Service Appointees (TA/RA/SA) are the same as those that constitute eligibility for Schedule 1 or Schedule 3 (9 credits, service appointment of 50% or more for 5 of 6 pay periods); criteria for eligibility for fellows/trainees are the same as those that constitute eligibility for appointee health insurance (9 credits, payment of at least $800 per month for 5 of 6 pay periods). All other students are required to pay the Technology Fee. Please communicate this policy decision to those persons in your units who will be affected by it. Sincerely, Marsha L. Landolt Dean and Vice Provost .
