A US National can apply for naturalization. The time frame = is much less than would be required for a Permanent Resident. Here's a = link to the Naturalization Guide. Page 17 talks specifically about US = nationals from American Samoa. Good luck. http://www.bcis.gov/graphics/services/natz/English.pdf Janelle Miner, Registrar Whatcom Community College 237 W. (This = student has referred her situation to her congressman and our = President's Office is now involved.) Any additional information I = receive, specific to US Nationals, will be greatly appreciated!! Thank = you! Cindy=20 I have a student who is a US National (not a US citizen) from American = Samoa. She wants to be classified as a resident for Fall Quarter = because she has lived in WA for over 12 months. Based on my = understanding of residency regulations regarding eligibility for = in-state fees, I am saying she is not eligible to pay resident tuition = because she is not a US citizen. As a result, that puts her in an = ineligible category and she is unable to qualify as a 1/01, or even as a = 2/29 because she is not an immigrant. I've coded her as a ZZ and 2/02.=20 How do you handle US Nationals, with respect to coding for citizenship = and residency/fee paying status? Your answers will be most appreciated!
