I feel that Hollywood (and the television medium more generally) has done an immense amount of good for our discipline. As David Meadows constantly reminds us, one can hardly turn on the television without some facet of the ancient world being explored. We can (and do) moan that NBC doesn't quite get the Odyssey right, but it is evidence that there is a huge amount of *popular* interest in the Classics out there. It is up to us to tap into that interest. Certainly "Gladiator" has done a great service to Latin and Roman Civilization classes throughout the US, and probably also abroad.
