Do a search for winmodems and linux on any major search engine, that should
help. I think you should just get a better modem that's not a winmodem, they
suck up CPU cycles.

I am using windows modem called "Conexant HCF V90 56K Data fax PCI modem"
installed in Compaq presario 5725.
but, I couldn't figure out if my modem does work in my redhat linux box.
if somebody knows about that, pls help me...*_*;
for your reference,
my kernel version is 2.2.14-6.1.1
