WSL resides on the server generously provided by Envirolink. Our goal is to provide free, accessible, and user friendly access to world species information using electronic means. WSL has no bureaucracy nor is it associated with any organization. Thus, WSL is limited only by the ideas and energy of people like you. Internship at WSL is from one to six months duration, beginning the first of each month (April 1, May 1, June 1, July 1, and Aug 1, 1996). Individual must be able to get to Lewes, Delaware US on their own. There is no fee or tuition, nor is there any payment to interns or to sponsoring organizations that they may have. We will provide guest room and board (vegetarian) free to interns at an intown location. Internship is a minimum of 20 hours per week, however, it is hoped that interns will volunteer for additional projects related to the environment. Off hours can be spent either touring or working at the ocean resort towns. Interns cannot stay beyond times agreed to in advance. Lewes, Delaware US is located 110 miles from each of the three surrounding cities (Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD and Philadelphia, PA). It is located on the Delaware Bay and three miles from Cape Henlopen on the Atlantic Ocean. We are 60 miles from the Chesapeake Bay. WSL will accept temporary assignments from other internship programs, however, WSL is not affiliated with any university and, therefore, course credit is probably not transferable. Priority in accepting interns is (1) interest in conservation and ecology, (2) interest in or knowledge of free and easy access to electronic information, and finally (3) knowledge of biology and environmental science. Bureaucratic skills (verbal and written) are NOT important. Individuals should apply regardless of their writing skills or their academic record. These things have nothing to do with building a world species list. Individuals who complete one or more months at WSL will be given a document attesting to their accomplishments. We hope this summer will be a great adventure for us all.
