I'm alive and unhurt and in fact far enough away from the damage to have seen it only on television. They tell me that I could have seen the smoke if I'd looked up when I left school on 91st Street yesterday, but I was too oblivious to do so. (Not like the Younger Pliny excerpting Livy as Vesuvius erupted across the bay: just depressed.) It's invisible from 144th Street. Anyway, one or two people have suggested that I post something to the list just so you will all know that I'm still around. Thanks for all the kind off-list inquiries. 2. Just to include some classical content, I'm making a slightly premature announcement. My web-text of Claudian with select apparatus criticus (CCCL = Claudii Claudiani Carmina Latina) has been much expanded and is now more than half done. I uploaded the files several weeks ago, but have put off a formal announcement since a few still need editing and two are missing the apparatus. Those will come soon, certainly by the end of the year. In the mean time, they are quite readable. Texts uploaded so far include: a. All the minor poems (50 or so) instead of just most of them as before. Highly miscellaneous and of highly varied quality and length. b. The invectives, *In Rufinum* (both books) and *In Eutropium* (Book I only, no apparatus yet) -- perhaps his best works. These are especially attractive if you think that the main thing wrong with Juvenal is that there isn't enough of him. c. The first two panegyrics, on the consulship of Probinus and Olybrius and the 3rd consulate of Honorius. Also the first book (of 3) of *De Consulatu Stilichonis*. Coming soon: Book II, featuring the Cave of Years and the Ouroboros. d. The satirical (?) epic (?) *In Gildonem* (no apparatus yet). e. The poems for the marriage of Honorius: one epithalamium and four fescennines. There is another epithalamium among the *Minora*, for Palladius and Celerina, a blonde barbarian beauty with a bad temper from Ovid's Tomis. I've also added a new front-end, with five different indices, by logical grouping (*per corpora*), title, first line, and numeration (both Hall and Birt). The index by dates will be added later, since so many are uncertain or unknown. So will the other texts, including *De Raptu Proserpinae* and some more panegyrics. Happy reading!
