Brian, you're the man. I've got my own little project going, and it's kind of a long story. Here's the deal. I am going to attempt a 24-hour road ride consisting of loops around Mercer Island. I will start around 4 pm on Friday, Sep. 8 from the grassy field just east of the I-90 bridge. I am doing it as a benefit for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This was all spurred on by my cousin's sudden diagnosis with leukemia in June (AML to be specific). The details are below. What I am asking of you guys is just some help in this thing. If you could spread the word to other people or lists, that would be great. And it would be even better if you could come out and ride a couple of laps with me. Or help out for a few hours at the "home base" at that grassy field to keep the food, water, tunes, and company going for me. I will have a table or something set up with forms, and it will be my pit stop every lap. I will have more details, as well as donation forms on my web site, so be sure to include it in any messages you send. It is: http://students.washington.edu/hayesdan The whole idea is to raise awareness about leukemia and the society that is there to help patients and researchers, as well as some money to support those patient and research services. Thanks, Dan Hayes UW Racing My cousin is in his 30's and has an active life and a family. It was an acute onset of the illness. Chemotherapy didn't work, and he was getting worse very quickly. He went into a coma, and people starting saying good bye; the doctors didn't give him treatment. After a couple of days, he came out of the coma, and has been progressing steadily ever since. Gaining weight and getting better and better blood and liver counts (of white blood cells I believe). He goes in on Monday for more chemo, and he may be able to do a "mini-transplant" of bone marrow if it goes well. To tell you the truth, it has been a miraculous, and poorly understood progression. .
