The Community Research Center works with non-profit organizations and community groups serving Central, Southeast and Southwest Seattle to provide technical assistance in evaluation, grant-writing and community-based research. In our collaborative work with community based groups, we value the following: * Meaningful and effective collaboration * Responsiveness to the needs of community-based and grassroots organizations * Building relationships grounded in trust * Open and honest communication * Community and scientific knowledge * Opportunities for mutual learning and capacity building * Cultural competence We currently have available one-time funding of $5-15,000 for one to two innovative, pilot projects to promote health and wellness and strengthen communities. The Community Research Center will work closely with the successful applicant(s) to design and conduct an evaluation of the program. This opportunity is ideal for community based groups who would like to pilot a new, innovative program and collaborate with the Community Research Center to evaluate its' effectiveness. Some examples of eligible projects could include: - projects that help build a sense of community - projects that connect community members and community gathering places such as schools, community centers or libraries - projects that improve child development and educational opportunities - projects that address root causes of health and social problems Eligibility: * Any non-profit or community group which serves communities in Central, Southeast or Southwest Seattle. 501(c)3 status is not required, however, you must have a demonstrated capacity to responsibly administer funds. * Ability to provide a one-to-one match of grant funds. * Willingness to work closely with the CRC to have your program evaluated. Criteria for Selection: Projects will be selected based on: * The need for the program and how well the proposed goals and objectives address the need. * Evidence of community involvement or participation in the development of the program. * Originality and innovation. * Appropriate scale for available funding. * The potential to learn from the pilot project and to use the information for future program development. * Ability to meet matching requirement. * A demonstrated ability to administer funds and carry out the proposed project. In order to apply for funding, please prepare a short (two to three page) concept paper that describes your project and how you would use the funding. Items to include in the concept paper are the following: * Brief description of the goals and objectives of the proposed project and how requested funds will be used. Note any activities to date if applicable. * Need for project in the community. * A plan for sustaining the project after the funding ends. * A management plan. Address who will oversee and staff the project. If the project involves a collaborative partnership, please describe. Describe how you will meet the matching requirement. * Discuss any additional support would you need to implement the project. The grant awards from Seattle Partners for Healthy Communities will be in the range of $5-15,000. However, we may determine a lower or higher grant award depending on the nature of the project and the availability of funding.
