Ginny,

I'm currently a student teacher responsbile for both Latin and World
History. I'll be certified in Latin and Social Studies. My advisors
never pushed for dual certification, but my father did. Originally, I
was to teach Chemistry but requirements dictated upper-level Calculus. I
quickly dropped that and switched to History (then all the ancient
history courses counted for both majors). Although here in Ohio there is
almost no need for Social Studies teachers, having dual certification is
almost always more marketable.

My supervising teacher in Latin, BTW, teaches Spanish as well.
