Thank you, Dirk.  That is a very helpful suggestion.  I do indeed have an
account with amazon.com, and this will save a small but ever bothersome bit
of form "out-filling" [to cast it in a slightly German way ;-)].

Allow me to add that I feel your observation as to the "lack of a tight
conceptual fit between the seemingly identical word in German and English"
was perceptive and apt to the case at point.

explication of what is meant by "the political" (das Politische). Here is
a good example of the lack of a tight conceptual fit between the seemingly
identical word in German and English.
The unfamiliarity of Schmidt to American audiences may be ending, as at
least one book devoted to him has been published in the last year. I don't
have the title to hand I'm afraid. Schmidt is apparently a familiar
figure to Straussians.
