May 3rd Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Opening Day of Boating Season to close Montlake Bridge and SR 520 ramps on May 3 Washington State Department of Transportation crews and City of Seattle Police will close Montlake Boulevard NE (State Route 513) to vehicular traffic across the Montlake Bridge in the University District in Seattle on Saturday, May 3, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., for boat races and the parade celebrating the opening day of boating season. In addition, during those same hours they will close the westbound State Route 520 exit to Montlake Boulevard NE and the eastbound State Route 520 exit to northbound Montlake Boulevard NE. The eastbound SR 520 exit to southbound Montlake Boulevard NE will remain open. Pedestrians will be allowed onto the Montlake Bridge to view the crew races until noon, when the bridge drawspan will open for the boat parade. Before 10 a.m., other activities will take place on the water. At approximately 9:40 a.m., the Seattle Police Harbor Patrol will close the Montlake Cut to all boat and vessel traffic to settle the water for the races. At 10 a.m., Seattle Police will close Montlake Boulevard NE to all traffic north of the Montlake Bridge at Northeast Pacific Street and south of the Montlake Bridge at East Hamlin Street. After the Opening Day Yacht Parade, the Montlake Bridge will open frequently, delaying traffic up to 15 minutes each opening, to allow vessels passage back through the canal. Vehicle traffic should also expect the University Bridge and Fremont Bridge to be busy allowing vessel passage. Motorists not involved in the event are encouraged to avoid the area and to consider alternate routes such as the Interstate 5 or Aurora Avenue (State Route 99). ****************************************************************************** University of Washington Transportation Office Box 355212 1127 N.E.
