The programmer would help us develop and maintain programs in our PHYLIP phylogeny package, and would also help us maintain our workstations. PHYLIP is the most widely distributed package for inferring phylogenies (evolutionary trees), a central task in computational molecular biology. Pay is $18 per hour, with 10-20 hours work per week. Times and locations of work are flexible. Being a part-time position, there is a maximum number of hours (about 1000) that can be worked in any one year. Experience with C programming and Unix is essential, and we also use Macintosh and Windows systems to test the use of our programs on those systems. Biological background is helpful but not essential. Ability and inclination to be helpful to members of our lab is. The job can start as soon as the person wants. The laboratory is in J wing of Health Sciences Building.
