Pughe" , tvelasqu@u.washington.edu Subject: Conversation Group Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Dear Readers: As part of an independent study, Writing Center Peer Consultant Tanya Velasquez is developing a conversation group for students who speak more than one language. (Her project also includes directed research on related pedagogies.) The Writing Center may be as good a place as any to sponsor such a group, given that (1) talking and listening help writers improve and (2) our pedagogy bypasses evaluation. The conversation group would have three goals: 1. to increase the number and quality of cultural exchanges on campus 2. to increase the use of the Writing Center by multilingual writers 3. to provide opportunities for positive cross-cultural interactions Anyone interested in one of these goals would be quite welcome to attend: the ability to speak two or three languages is not required! The first meeting of the conversation group will be on Thursday, February 12, at 1:30 p.m. in the Writing Center. Thank you very much for passing along any suggestions, questions, or ideas to Tanya Velasquez (tvelasqu@), Bronwyn Pughe (bronwyn@), or me (kalikoff@). We'll write again soon.
