The Gregg's sponsorship turned out to be somewhat difficult to nail down, so I wanted to make sure of things before I distributed the cards. Here's the deal: The entire team (some 40-odd members) will have access to the 15% discount during Gregg's slow time, i.e. from now until April 15th. After that, they are very concerned about swarming the store during its busy time with non-full-price-paying Huskies, so they want to limit the sponsorship at that point to 15 people. We need to decide how to do that, and I expect there may be some disparity of opinion here. Anyway, shorts should be ready by Thursday and I will try to set up times on Thurs and Fri to get them back to you, along with your cards. *** There are some VERY important things to keep in mind when using your discount at Gregg's which will help this be a long-lasting and mutually fruitful relationship: o Your card is for YOUR OWN use. Never lend your card to anyone; I have put "ID may be required for use" on the cards and expect this to be taken seriously by the people at Gregg's. o Keep in mind that you are not paying full price, and therefore that Gregg's is making very little (if not a negative amount) of money on your purchase. Therefore BE COURTEOUS when conducting your transaction there, i.e.: - BEFORE you are rung up, let the cashier/salesperson KNOW YOU ARE A HUSKY and show your card. This makes it simpler for them to ring up your transaction and to keep track of the sales to the team. - Defer to other customers, especially if your transaction may take a minute or two. We shouldn't interfere with Gregg's regular business. - Go into the store _knowing_ what you want to buy, and buy it. Try not to monopolize/occupy sales people for a prolonged period of time, or else Gregg's will decide that they are actually losing out on the sponsorship. A little research outside the store goes a long way in streamlining the sponsorship. I would be happy to answer any techincal questions I can. If I can't, you wil surely find someone on uwracing who can. - Do not abuse your sponsorship, or give your friends access to the team discount. Gregg's prices are reasonable, and if anything, you should encourage people to shop there (i.e. at retail prices). I know this sounds a little stern, but the sponsorship is very much in its experimental stages. If we do things well, we can very possibly expect better (i.e. full-year) sponsorship in future seasons. Stan Gregg and his business advisor Marty have gone to considerable effort to think through this sponsorship. We are working on a team order of tires, which we would arrange as a single bulk order (i.e. one check --> Gregg's, one pickup from Gregg's, and distribution at some location other than the store). The better things go with the day-to-day sponsorship stuff, the more amenable Stan is likely to be to this sort of thing. As far as the 15 rider limit goes, I think this is to minimize transaction costs for the store, rather than to limit the quantity of stuff purchased at a discount. I think that we should distribute the cards to people who are (a) involved consistently with the team, and who (b) are willing to coordinate and take an occasional order for a non-card-carrying member of the team. More on this later; I don't think that it really should be that big a problem, but the officers welcome any input that you have about this (email to me). Thanks for your time, Ta .
