But perhaps there (in his response to Odysseus' entreaty) he's exaggerating his affection? Achilleus' resentment against Agamemnon certainly seems to have deep roots; the 'small but dear' comment comes in a passage where Achilleus claims that Agamemnon _always_ gets the better prizes. As Robbins notes (see my post on Eetion), there's evidence in the poem to support that claim.
