I serve on the President's Advisory Committee on Women (PACW) which meets on the Seattle campus once a month. I often have little to say, because it often meets on days/times impossible for me or anyone else to attend. The pleasures of a 3-campus university... Perhaps one topic of conversation could be: identifying a faculty or staff person (not a student) who might be willing to attend these important meetings on days when teaching prevents me from doing so. It's a high-powered committee, composed mainly of women deans and chairpersons and Big Staffwomen on Campus, and conducts its business on a high and very efficient level. Their concerns in past years have included: improving recruitment and retainment of women faculty, staff, students; diversity in general (although there's another presidential committee charged with diversity); the campus climate for women; quarterly forums on topics of interest to women, inviting speakers from out of state &/or women political and business leaders; advising the president on specific issues he asks for input/research on.
