Hope all is well. We have not chatted (via e-mail) in sometime - you may remember me as one of the individuals behind the (now revamped) Spirit of Aboriginal Enterprise web site (http://sae.ca). I wonder if you could help us get the word out on a unique opportunity for Aboriginal people on the information highway. Would you be interested in sending this (see below) out to your readers? Jay ================================== Jay Illingworth Aboriginal Business Canada Industry Canada Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA 613-954-5814 illingworth.jay@ic.gc.ca ** Visit the Aboriginal Digital Collections web site: http://www.schoolnet.ca/adc (proposal DEADLINE: July 31/98) ================================== ---------- Subject: Opportunity for Developing Aboriginal Digital Content The Aboriginal Digital Collections pilot program has been launched and is accepting proposals until the end of July. Time is short on this unique opportunity to take part in the information highway revolution. Aboriginal Business Canada and SchoolNet Digital Collections have launched the Aboriginal Digital Collections (ADC) pilot program as a unique opportunity for Aboriginal Canadians to preserve, celebrate and communicate their heritage, languages and contemporary life by developing and accessing materials over the Information Highway. ADC has been designed to ensure that Aboriginal individuals and businesses play an active role in building the Canadian information and knowledge infrastructure. Aboriginal youth will be paid to create web sites featuring significant Canadian Aboriginal material. The material can range from information on Aboriginal businesses and entrepreneurship to traditional knowledge and contemporary issues. The ADC program will award contracts to Aboriginal Canadian firms, associations or individuals to hire teams of young people 15 to 30 years of age to digitize text, images, audio and video material and incorporate it in attractive web sites for display on the SchoolNet and Spirit of Aboriginal Enterprise web sites. Aboriginal Business Canada will support the collection and organization of business, economic development and/or entrepreneurship information for conversion to digital form. The focus here is NOT on initiatives related to the viability of any one business opportunity, but rather research and reporting of results, or tools designed to teach entrepreneurship, which will have broad application and can increase the participation of Aboriginal business in the international economy. These collections will demonstrate the talent, content and business expertise that Aboriginal people contribute to the Canadian economy and multimedia industry. ADC will also promote Aboriginal multimedia firms and position Aboriginal youth for success in the knowledge-based economy. Additional details and program submission forms are on the Aboriginal Digital Collections Web site at http://www.schoolnet.ca/adc.
