Mannering" To: faculty@ce.washington.edu Subject: Open Faculty Position (fwd) VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR) has an opening for a tenure-track position in the Structures Area of the Department of Civil Engineering specializing in Structural Health Monitoring and Multisensor Data Function. UMR has identified structural health monitoring as an area for mission enhancement in research and teaching, and is dedicated to developing a nationally recognized program. The successful applicant will interact with the Intelligent Systems Center (ISC) and with faculty in all engineering and science disciplines to initiate new research and academic programs. Desired qualitites include ability to develop an independent research program, participate in multidisciplinary research activities, interact with industry, and show promise of excellence in teaching. Expectations include teaching and developing structures courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advising undergraduate and graduate students, and establishing and conducting an active research program. Start-up support for research is anticipated. The position is available beginning mid-August 1999 and intended to be at the assistant professor level but associate professor may be considered. Screening will begin February 15, 1999, and continue until the position is filled. Applicants must have a doctorate in Civil Engineering. Preference may be given to a candidate who also has a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Registration as Professional Engineer is expected within a five-year time-period. Civil Engineering at UMR offers a broad-based undergraduate program as well as graduate studies (MS and PhD) in the areas of structures, environmental, geotechnical, hydraulics and hydrology, transportation, and civil engineering materials. The department currently has more than 25 faculty, and research efforts of over $1 million in FY 1997. ISC stimulates multidisciplinary research that will unify experimentally and theoretically derived concepts related to intelligent engineering systems with applications across a wide variety of fields. More than 35 faculty members are associated with ISC as research investigators. Faculty members and graduate students from the academic departments of basic engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, civil engineering, computer science, electrical and computer engineering, engineering management, mechanical and aerospace engineering and engineering mechanics, metallurgical engineering, mining engineering, nuclear engineering, and psychology are involved with sponsored multidisciplinary research efforts.
