(fwd) Please distribute this message to all Faculty, Staff, and Grad Students. -mr ---------- Forwarded message ---------- A long-time pine user asked if there is a way to process several related email messages at one time. This is a new feature of Pine version 3.91a. If you're not sure which version of pine you are using, look in the upper left-hand corner of your pine screen. All C&C computers are using pine 3.91a; departmental computers may still be using older versions of pine. The feature is called 'aggregate operations' and allows you to SELECT a group of messages based on message status or the content of header lines and message text. Then you can APPLY a command to the entire group to save, reply, forward, export, print, delete, and more. The ZOOM command will cause only selected messages to appear on the Folder Index screen (zoom in); if you ZOOM again (zoom out), all messages will be shown. Print this message now so you can read it as you try the examples below. To get more information about aggregate operations use pine online help. >From the pine Main Menu, press: I for Folder Index, then press ? for Help, and W for WhereIs, and enter the search string: 'selecting:' (without the '' marks!) and press to begin the search, and read all about it. E will Exit from Help and return to the Folder Index. Selected messages are marked with an "X" in column 1 of the Folder Index screen, unless you have selected the 'show-selected-in-boldface' option, in which case selected messages will be shown in bold/bright typeface. To select or unselect this and other options, start at the pine Main Menu and press: S for Setup, C for Configure, twice to page down 2 screens until you come to 'show-selected-in-boldface'. Press ? to get Help information for any option, and press E to exit from Help. Then press X to select [X] or unselect [ ] the option. Press E to Exit Configuration and return to the pine Main Menu. I hope this will get you started on a powerful and convenient feature of the newest version of pine. If you have questions, send email or call. -mr .
