The World Conservation Monitoring Center in Cambridge, UK has a WWW site, or can be accessed by ftp (ftp.wcmc.uk if memory serves). There are two documents published by IUCN that are available electronically at the Communications for a Sustainable Future Gopher (csf.colorado.edu) in Colorado, in the directory Environment/Conservation Biology/Documents/Topics. Parks and Progress covers conservation issues throughout Latin America, particularly as they concern parks and protected areas. Caring for the Earth is an action agenda for conservation that reflects some (not all) southern perceptions on conservation. The Biodiversity Information Network (BIN21) runs a WWW page that connects ten different nodes globally that offer biodiversity information, with pointers to other sources. BIN21 also archives Biodiv-L, a list that has discussions and notices that reflect international concerns. Envirolink also operates a WWW site with information from an international perspective. Some useful references are: African Centre of Technology Studies (ACT): publishes several biodiversity and wildlife-related monographs. Abstracts for several are available on-line through Bioline Publications, at the BIN21 WWW site. Biodiversity Support Program (1993). African Biodiversity: Foundation for the Future. BSP, WWF, Washington, DC. Blockhus, Jill M., Mark Dillenbeck, Jeffrey A. Sayer and Per Wegge (1992). Conserving Biological Diversity in Managed Tropical Forests. IUCN, Gland, Switzerland. The IUCN Publishes a number of volumes related to wildlife conservation and protected areas management: their WWW site has a list of publications, and "IUCN" is a good search term for most card catalogs. Braatz, Susan (1992). Conserving Biological Diversity: A Strategy for Protected Areas in the Asia-Pacific Region. World Bank Technical Paper 193. World Bank, Washington. Brown, Michael and Barbara Wyckoff-Baird (1992). Designing Integrated Conservation and Development Projects. Biodiversity Support Program (WWF/TNC/WRI), World Wildlife Fund - US, Washington, DC. Foresta, Ronald A. (1991). Amazon Conservation in the Age of Development: The Limits of Providence. University of Florida Press, Gainesville. (good analysis of the development of a conservation policy for Amazonian Brazil). IUCN (1994). Parks for Life: Report of the IVth World Congress on National Parks and Protected Areas. IUCN, Gland, Switzerland. There are plenty of references and contacts listed at the end of a large number of workshops at four symposia. The workshop summaries form nice precis of international issues. Kiss, Agnes (ed.)(1990). Living with Wildlife: Wildlife Resource Management with Local Participation in Africa. World Bank Technical Paper No. 130, World Bank, Washington, DC. McNeely, Jeffrey A. (ed.)(1994). Building Partnerships for Conservation. IUCN, Gland, Switzerland. Miller, Kenton R. (1994). Balancing the Scales: Managing Biodiversity at the Bioregional Level. World Resources Institute, Washington, DC. (WRI is also a good search term for international wildlife/ conservation issues). Chicago University Press, Chicago. Swanson, Timothy and Edward Barbier (eds.)(1992). Sorry - can't pick this one off the top of my head: maybe Economics of Wildlife. Earthscan Books, London, UK. (The London International Institute for Environmental Economics (IIEC) publishes many social and economic analyses related to international wildlife conservation). Webster, Jim (1994). Conserving Biodiversity in Africa: A Review of the USAID Africa Bureau's Biodiversity Program. Biodiversity Support Program (WWF/TNC/WRI), WWF-US, Washington, DC.
