The Pacific Island Ecosystems Research Center, USGS-BRD, is looking for a Coordinator to coordinate field, laboratory, and data entry aspects of the "Biocomplexity of Introduced Avian Diseases" project, an NSF-funded study of the ecology and evolution of avian disease in Hawaii. The project includes mistnetting, mosquito trapping, laboratory diagnostics, aviary, and genetics components. This is a term GS-5 position available for 13 months with possibility of extension, and includes benefits and COLA. Incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and organizing a large year-round field effort involving 12 paid biological staff, 20 volunteer field interns, 3 volunteer houses, 6-8 vehicles, and 9 study areas. Incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of managing day-to-day logistics of the project, including hiring, managing, and assisting in training interns; procuring field equipment; vehicle logistics, including arranging for maintenance and upkeep; intern housing issues; permitting, reporting, and liasoning with landowners; and limited data entry and field work as required. Must have excellent people and organizational skills. Incumbent will be based at Kilauea Field Station in Volcano, HI.
