California heads the list because of earthquakes, wildfire, and landslides. Other hazardous spots: Alaska, Louisiana, Hawaii, and the North Carolina coast. http://www.press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/534189.html Monmonier also wrote "How To Lie with Maps" which is quite fascinating. (2) Here's a pretty comprehensive summary of the current discussions in academia and industry about GIS certification--whether and how GIS professionals should be certified (similar to how surveyors are certified). http://www.ncgia.ucsb.edu/other/ucgis/certification/ (3) Read about Virtual Reality Modeling Language and its connection to GIS at the site noted by Martin Reddy at http://www.sri.com/news/releases/06-05-00.html Plus, there is a nice article about VRML and the possibilities for GIS and VRML at http://www.directionsmag.com/features.asp?FeatureID=36 Joseph _______________________________________ Joseph J.
