Two and a half years after their untimely demise, Sunny Day Real Estate has reunited and written new material for a third (as-yet-untitled) album, to be released by Sub Pop Records in the spring of 1998. The Background: Vocalist/guitarist Jeremy Enigk, guitarist Dan Hoerner, bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith first formed Sunny Day Real Estate in 1992. Their debut full-length record, 1994's "Diary," by turns powerfully emotional, beautifully melodic and punchy as hell (often in the same song), quickly established them as favorites amongst fans and critics alike. The band toured throughout 1994 and in early 1995, and yes, they really were as good as everyone says they were. After recording their self-titled second album in March 1995, Sunny Day Real Estate broke up, Sunny Day Real Estate was released by Sub Pop in November of the same year. What's that saying about stars that burn brightest? The Foreground: Nate and William went on to join Dave Grohl in the Foo Fighters, and Dan opted for something a little more off the beaten path: living and farming in Washington with his new wife and dog. Meanwhile, Jeremy recorded a solo album filled with lush compositions fleshed out with the help of a 21-piece orchestra. Return of the Frog Queen found Jeremy no less passionate for his orchestral inclinations: the solo record draws upon the urgency of punk rock and mixes it with classical instrumentation for stunning results. In the two and a half years since SDRE disbanded, interest from eager fans has not subsided; in fact, the band's legend has grown. The SDRE e-mail list thrives, reunion rumors periodically erupt, and fans continue to rabidly inquire about the availability of early, rare material. It was this fervor that spawned the idea of releasing an "odds & ends" compilation of rare tracks and live recordings. Such a release would both please ravenous fans and tie up some loose ends for the band. Approached with the notion of recording 3 to 4 new songs for this album, the band agreed to give it a try. Practice ran smoothly and they genuinely enjoyed playing together with the end result that Sunny Day Real Estate would write and record a third full-length album. ....you can breathe again now... The Details: The new Sunny Day Real Estate record will be out next spring. The band has not decided whether they will tour. They have also not decided whether they will record together again after this. Nate remains a full-time member of the Foo Fighters and has no plans to leave. Jeremy is anxious to return to the studio to record his second solo record. ********* ----------------------- Headers -------------------------------- >From owner-sunny-day@ .
