He had an F-1 visa, but it expired. On 2/6/03 the student completed Form I-589 seeking asylum status. The form says he is allowed to remain in the US until his asylum application is decided. He says it may be several years before he gets approval. He has been living in Washington prior to and since he submitted this form. In the Residency Handbook, on page 9, REC.ID 4247, it says "He/she will be eligible to pay resident tuition one year after applying for permanent residence or whenever he/she is granted permanent residency, whichever comes first." The student has met the one year requirement and all other residency requirements. Since I can't find mention of Form I-589 in the Handbook, can I grant him residency status? =20 Nanci Torcivia Office Manager Enrollment Services Edmonds Community College phone: (425) 640-1853 ------_=_NextPart_001_01C44E7C.2D514E73 Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Message
