This is kinda directed to the B team riders but read on and add constructive criticism if you have any. I hope this doesn't sound sanctimonious, but, I have a vision. I've been thinking about the fact that we have a lot of strong B riders this year and the fact that as a team this creates a dilemma in our stage race scenario. I think we need to find common ground in the team framework, identify our goals and use them to become better racers. Here's what I have in mind. We have only two stages this weekend which are the two this idea really would work with. I think everyone deserves a shot at top placements, thats why we race not to watch the other guys always cross the line first. We have many that could do just that this year. This may sound weird but give it some thought or we'll work something else out. Since we've never identified a real team objective as B riders this will be a change, don't be afraid. (am I sounding repulican yet?) Here's the plan. We decide which race, RR or Crit. we would like to shoot for personally (what you feel strong for etc). What we'll do then is (now I know this might sound weird) draw straws. Guys who wanna go fer the crit., say half of us draw from straws that are half long and half short. The long straws will get to shoot for the win (say 3 guys) and top finishing places and TEAMMATES will work the pack for them, chasing, bridging, lead outs and all that cool bike racing stuff. Same goes fer the RR. Winners or top placers from previous weeks will not draw but sit in and work for their teammates. Others will get a shot at some thunder and glory and it could be alot of fun. We have nothing but races to lose and nothing but races to win I think learning the keys to winning thru teamwork early, and staying together in the forseeable future we could all do very well. There are of course variables, such as crashes and unforseeable tactics to be considered but I think if we have an objective, we will be come a much better team and much better racers. I think we all share the goal of improvement and when the chance to become an A racer or cat 3 or 2 or whatever presents itself we should be ready and have a clue about teammwork and the tactics required to get the team the win. Nuff Said, Think it over The voice of reason ??? Huh ?? (no laughing!!) Mark A. .
