I'll take up for Pausanias ONLY- the other books mentioned may merit it, but i don't want an overly lengthy note- just a lot of signatures. If this does go forward, can I ask interested members to circulate the note to other relevant lists or concerned colleagues. Ask them to contact me: jstewart@ursinus.edu I'll put together something and circulate it before sending. The latest word incidentally is that volume one will stay in print, but volume two will not be reprinted. Jim Stewart Ursinus College Those two vols.need heavy revision and updating. Seems to me that a far more practical solution than the kind of of children's crusade David envisions would be to get a good university press interested in taking the book off Penguin's hands, revising and updating it, and bringing it out with vastly improved maps and maybe some illustrations, preferably in one volume. As editor I would suggest one of Suda On Line's luminaries, Bill Hutton, who (as I have good reason to know) has done some of the toughest and most original work on Pausanias in years. Your Penguinificator (who believes in getting results, not striking useless, if emotionally satisfying, liberal attitudes, and ain't going storming off to dem barricades with no one). .
