Here's what Jeffrey Gibson forwarded to me last night from Zeus herself: "Well, what I have done is put him on the list of people who are not allowed to post. We'll see how cranky he gets with me for this." And here's what Zeus sent me this morning when I asked her whether it was true that Thomas P. Roche and the Australian Nazi had been kicked off the list in years past: "No, what I've done is set people so that they can't post and that makes them leave 'voluntarily'. I'm going to pretend I'm away for the holiday weekend if SS does complain to me. He'll get my attention on Tuesday after I've addressed work concerns." Conclusion: there is a (small-g) god! Now we can all relax and get on with our work. Unless of course he starts e-mailing us off-list. But that wouldn't be nearly so efficient a way of annoying people. (Diana -- not Linda -- Wright confesses off-list to wanting to kill the bastard.) I don't know how to set up a bozo-filter, but I'm sure I can fake one. Just hit return and paste in an identical message each time. Something like "This unsolicited message is being returned unread. Further attempts at harrassment may result in prosecution." Anyway, something bureaucratic and threatening and giving no handle for satisfying reply. His cheerful answer to my latest reminds me of the Simpsons' episode where Ned Flanders is locked up in a mental ward and Homer is asked to insult him to get him to release his years of pent-up anger. Not that S. resembles Flanders, but "This guy's such a moron you can't even insult him!" seems an appropriate comment.
