We reviewed the following texts for an Introduction to GIS class at the
local community college:

"Fundamentals of Geographic Information Systems", Michael N DeMers, John
Wiley & Sons (http://www.wiley.com/), ISBN 0-471-14284-0  -- a good
basic text with terms & review questions

"Getting Started with Geographic Information Systems", Keith C Clarke,
Prentice-Hall (http://www.prentice-hall.com/), ISBN 0-13-923889-1 --
another good basic text with study questions & lab assignments

"Exploring Geographic Information Systems", Nicholas Chrisman, John
Wiley & Sons, ISBN 0-471-10842-1 -- more theory than the other two
