I tend to agree with you in that one of the key components which is often overlooked when selecting software is what are others using, particularly other agencies that you will wok closely with and likely share data and applications. Anyone who routinely has to incorporate Microstation data into Mapinfo would know what I mean. On the topic of comparisons, I would like to point you to a monthly publication that I put out called SpatialNews. A couple of months ago I ran a review of Mapinfo and ArcView that may be of interest to many of you (people are always looking for unbiased comparisons, of which there aren't many). In addition I'll be putting out a review and tour of Microsoft's Mappoint software in May - a definite must see for any business geographic types. you can view past issues at http://www.coastnet.com/~letham/spatialnews.html you can sign up for your free subscription delivered to your desktop by mailing a blank email to spatialnews-subscribe@listbot.com I'm always looking for interesting stories to write up so if you have any "eaarth shaterring" gis news let me know at spatialnews@coastnet.com Oh yeah, the site will be relocating to http://www.spatialnews.com by months end so look for even bigger and better things to come.
