This job represents an opportunity for you to apply leadership and vision through organizing the center's efforts to improve public service work by deepening relationships between Haas Center-affiliated groups and the communities they seek to serve. To implement its overall mission, the Haas Center for Public Service organizes its programming into three major areas, each led by an Assistant Director: for Student Development, for Service-Learning and for Community Partnerships. Conceptualized as three interlocking circles, these areas are highly integrated in practice, yet also individually accountable to the overall mission. The Assistant Director for Community Partnerships plays a critical role by providing leadership, direction, management and supervision for one of the "circles," i.e. involvement with communities (groups, agencies, individuals, municipalities, etc.) who are participants, partners or potential partners in service efforts associated with the Haas Center. The Assistant Director represents the Haas Center's institutional leadership on campus and in off-campus communities in matters related to developing a) standards for accountability, effectiveness and ethical practice in service by Stanford individuals and groups, and b) the quality of relationships between Stanford service groups and community participants or partners. QUALIFICATIONS *Demonstrated ability to be credible and work effectively in a leadership capacity among faculty, students and staff in a higher education setting and, equally, to be trusted by and work effectively with a diversity of community groups. *Minimum 7-8 years of professional work experience and/or equivalent volunteer involvement with public/community organizations and/or nonprofits. *Minimum 5 years professional experience with theory and practice of public service and service-learning in higher education, especially with issues of "town vs. gown" and their impact on campus-community partnerships. *The equivalent of 5 years of progressively responsible and professional level administrative, management, and supervisory experience, preferably in a large public or private four-year college or university. *Demonstrated familiarity with budgeting and funding processes relevant to this position; funding experience preferred. *Minimum masters degree in relevant field or equivalent professional experience. *Demonstrated familiarity and effectiveness with applying the implications of diversity and multiculturalism to issues of public/community service and community partnerships theory and practice; demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diversity of community groups across differences in race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual identity and abilities. *Familiarity with community issues required; East Palo Alto and the South Bay preferred. *Familiarity with issues of second language use and/or fluency in Spanish preferred.
