I had this in mind, especially as I recall reading once that the one of the connotations of XRISTIANOI to those Syrian Antiochene "pagans" who gave the members of the Jesus movement this appellation (see Acts 11:26 ) was "the smelly ones" (= a play on how the oil that those who were anointed with it smelled), but I cannot find the reference or any subsequent documentation that this was the case. I'd be grateful for something which would confirm my memory. In the meantime, are there any other groups? Any political parties in Greece or Rome who took up and proudly used as a self designation a slur or an epithet or a denunciatory title levelled by opponents against them?
