Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates, irrespective 
of race, gender or creed, for the following post from as early a date as 
possible:

             SENIOR RESEARCH OFFICER / PROGRAMME CO-ORDINATOR

Institute of Social and Economic Research 
[Contract post for two years in the first instance]

The successful candidate will co-ordinate and help develop the activities 
of the "people and environment" programme within the ISER. This programme 
undertakes a number of research projects in the Eastern Cape which aim to 
integrate developmental and environmental objectives in addition to 
contributing to scholarly knowledge.

Requirements: A record of successful research and publication in the 
field of rural development and related areas such as natural resource 
management, land tenure, etc; familiarity with the dynamics of South 
African rural communities; good interpersonal skills; a PhD in a relevant 
area (persons about to complete a PhD may also be considered). Experience 
in research administration and organisational development will be a 
strong recommendation.
