I believe there used to be an exemption for federal employees other than active duty military, but it was changed a while back. The federal, civil service employees seem to remember it even though it is no longer in effect. Back to the question at hand. There is a case study on page 74 of the Residency Handbook specifically regarding spouses of NOAA personnel dated March, 1996. The description is as follows: Ordinarily the spouse of active NOAA personnel would not be eligible for resident tuition under military exemption; however, in the casse where the NOAA employee has been reassigned to Coast Guard and put into military assignment, the military exemption for the spouse would apply. >I have a student who has inquired about any waiver available for spouses >of National Weather Service employees who are transferred to >Washington.
