I am trying to elaborate such a system for the region Nord - Pas-de-Calais= (in the North of France) to monitor the impacts of human activities on biodiversity and to identify and underscore the responsibilities of sectoral public policies. This system is intended to help decision making and public action evaluation. In this system, we want to involve the nature conservation network - scientists, nature protection associations, and environmental policy= makers. Encouraging these parties to participate together should help to make them more efficient in their actions to conserve biodiversity, and also strengthen the network itself (our aim is to help reinforce the links between nature recorders/data productors and nature conservation decision makers ). To elaborate this system, we distinguish two dimensions : a technical one (Which data to collect and with which method and tools ? Which process for the collection - treatment - use of the data ? Etc.) and an organisational= one (Which stakeholders to involve in the monitoring system and how ? What will be the results in term of the organisation of the network and how will evolve their action for biodiversity ? Etc.). In this context, I'm looking for bibliographic references or personal contacts in the following fields : - biodiversity monitoring systems including rapid assessment - evaluation of public policies, as far as their impact on biodiversity is concerned - the use of scientific data for decision support, in the field of biodiversity conservation - biodiversity information management - management and use of biodiversity qualitative data - information systems that can evolve through their use by networks of experts, professionals, etc. Moreover, for the organisational dimension, I would like to extend my information on : - action research - participatory monitoring and evaluation - 'learning by doing' - capacity building Please respond directly to me at durandbourlier@engref.fr rather than to the list if possible. In case other people are interested, I can send responses to the list. I would appreciate any suggestion or comments about the scope of my work which you wish to make. Thanks a lot for your help.
