Carmichael" To: Subject: New Labs Update Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Greetings, LLC-LIST! I just want to take a moment to update you on the LLC's progress in preparing our new self-study audio lab and our new e-classroom for use. I also explain below how we are handling students' audio listening needs during this transitionary period. Self-Study Audio Lab (room 114): The old analog hardware has been removed. The carrells have been fitted for new digital hardware, and most of the hardware has been installed. The university is in the process of supplying more ethernet connections to us. We are working on finishing the hardware installation and ethernet connectivity by early next week. By that time, Sony should have the software ready for us, and we'll begin the software configuration and testing for the self-study lab. --> How are we accommodating students' audio listening needs in the meantime? Over the last year, we have been madly digitizing our audio holdings in preparation for this self-study lab down-time. Students can find their audio listening assignments on the LLC website: http://depts.washington.edu/llc Also, students can come to the LLC and access these audio materials within our CALL lab (room 112 Denny). The LLC still provides cassette tape duplication services, so students can bring blank tapes to the LLC to have copies made of their audio homework (see the LLC website for details). E-Classroom (room 122): The old analog system has been removed and the room has been rewired to accommodate digital workstations. PC workstations have been installed. We're just waiting for Sony to deliver the e-classroom software so that we can configure and test the lab. We'll have an open house early in winter quarter to show you the new facilities and explain their functionality in greater detail. We'll also be holding short training sessions for language faculty who wish to use the new e-classroom. -Lesley Carmichael LLC-LIST owner LLC Staff Associate, Romance Languages .
