If you have further questions, her phone number and email are below. Sarena ---------- From: emw@asph.org To: sarena@u.washington.edu Subject: Re: question about CDC grant -Reply All accredited schools of public health and programs in public health, community health education, and preventive medicince which are accredited by CEPH (Council on Ed. in PH) and other health professions schools (nursing, medicine, etc.) are eligible to serve as lead participants in HPPI. The partnership must consist of two health professions schools, an undergraduate college, one high school w/substantial minority enrollment and its feeder middle schools, and one community-based organization (at a minimum). Community colleges, other graduation schools (education or law, for example), an associate degree health program, and other vested groups are encouraged to join up. Up to 10 $350,000 grants will be funded in early 2000; five of these are for public health and five are for the other health professions. The CFP is coming out in late January, we hope. I'm suggesting that interested people hold meetings ASAP to find out first who else at their school might be interested in applying for HPPI and to get a handle on current efforts and by other departments, groups etc. as regards outreach and partnering potential to tackle the problem of underrepresented minority students in the health professions. Then when the CFP is finalized and distributed, you will be ready to address it with the interested colleagues. Sarena, feel free to call me at 202-296-1099 today for more info. .
