Maybe a Pride Corner on the subject could focus primarily on the differing perspectives and responses that people have to labels and their meaning. Rather than make really specific recommendations we might outline some of the more interesting points of difference about labels, and emphasize the importance of talking more about how we feel about different words. It never seems to work if anyone is overly prescriptive about language, but I think it is very effective to have thoughtful conversations that have mutual respect as a goal. I would be happy to work with a student or anyone else on some of our Pride Corner offerings. Maybe at our next meeting we can talk about the best way to order our subjects for the first few columns.
