CORPS Opportunity $$$$$$$$$ Dear Club Presidents, First, Please pass this info onto your club members and then any friends yo= u might think be interested. My name is Brad Bullock and I am the UW Nike student Rep.=20 I wanted to inform you about the current opportunity for all college studen= ts involved in sports. Quick version: Nike pays $500 dollars to college students that become P.L.A.Y. CORPS Coach= es. To become a coach you have to first apply before Feb. 24th. If accepted= , you then put in 80 to 100 hrs. as a coach at a nonprofit organization. Af= ter the hours are put in, Nike will transfer $500 into your college account= =2E You can teach almost any sport and Nike is pretty flexible to where you= coach.=20 I can be contacted at bullock@u.washington.edu or (206) 985-0690 Overview version Below: P.L.A.Y.CORPS What: NIKE P.L.A.Y.CORPS is an initiative that inspires college students to= coach kids in sports and life. P.L.A.Y.CORPS recruits and trains college s= tudents to coach in city and town youth leagues. Coaches work with organiza= tions like the Boys & Girls Clubs, the YMCA/YWCA, PAL, the school system, C= YO, Parks and Recreation and community centers. Who: College students (second semester freshmen, sophomores, juniors, first= semester seniors, and graduate students). Most CORPS coaches are not varsi= ty athletes. Most played sports in high school and play intramurals in coll= ege. Many have tutored, mentored or participated in some kind of community = service in the past. All are excited about giving back to kids through spor= ts. Where:NIKE P.L.A.Y.CORPS is open to any college student anywhere in the cou= ntry. Because students identify the local organization where they are going= to coach, there are CORPS coaches in the inner city, in college towns, on = Indian Reservations, and in rural areas that have community colleges and tr= ade schools. When: All year around. P.L.A.Y.CORPS coaches have to do a total of 100 hour= s of coaching for their local organization. They set up their own schedule = with that organization or team. After 100 hours of coaching, coaches receiv= e $500 towards their tuition. How: Students can get a P.L.A.Y.CORPS application by calling the hotline (1= -888-292-HERO), emailing (PLAYCORPS@nike.com), or checking out (www.nikebiz= =2Ecom/play). Application deadlines are twice a year: March 1 and November = 1. We train new coaches in May and January at the P.L.A.Y.CORPS Jam, a fun = day of clinics, workshops and practice coaching. Why: Because local organizations need coaches. Because kids need coaches. B= ecause college students make great coaches, mentors and heroes for kids. What=92s Hot News:=20 a..
