M. Hamilton" To: Institute for Sustainable Futures:;;@uts.edu.au Subject: SUSTAINABILITY-L: A Mailing list for researchers working on susta= inability *** Apologies for Cross-Posting *** ---------------------------------------------------------------------------= ----- ANNOUNCING SUSTAINABILITY-L : a new list for sustainability researchers ---------------------------------------------------------------------------= ----- We are a group of researchers - both staff and postgraduate students - at the Institute for Sustainable Futures at the University of Technology, Sydney. We're working on sustainability issues such as global change, ecological sustainability, water, futures research, science communication, air pollution, ecological economics, industry policy, sustainable agriculture, urban transport, and sustainable energy (in no particular order!). Sustainability research is transdisciplinary by nature and encompasses a broad range of social, environmental and economic issues. It crosses disciplinary boundaries and therefore may not be well-accommodated within the traditional structure of many universities. Apart from the isolation which many postgraduate students experience, research on sustainability may compound feelings of frustration and alienation. We've been discussing these difficulties and decided to do something about it. We know that many researchers and students around the world are working on sustainability-related issues and we thought that a mailing list would help to unite and inform these separate undertakings. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------= ----- Our aims for this list are to: =B7 facilitate networking between researchers (including honours and postgraduate students) working on sustainability issues =B7 promote discussion between disciplines and encourage interdisciplinary research =B7 disseminate information on topical issues =B7 provide support for researchers working on sustainability =B7 provide a forum for sharing information on seminars, conferences, and useful resources =B7 establish a directory of researchers working on sustainability issues We would welcome your participation. Please feel free to pass this message on to others who might be interested. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------= ----- To subscribe, please email: =09sustainability-l-request@uts.edu.au with the message: =09subscribe sustainability-l your emailaddress in the body of the message.
